At Montgomeryville Nissan, we want to help out our local customers in Philadelphia, Lansdale, and Doylestown, which is why we’ve put together this 2018 Nissan Pathfinder dashboard light guide. Read more about your Pathfinder’s dashboard lights here, so you can have a little peace of mind on the road.

Warning Lights vs Indicator Lights

Your 2018 Pathfinder is equipped with two types of dashboard lights: warning lights and indicator lights.

Warning lights are designed to illuminate when there’s an issue with one of your vehicle’s vital systems, and they tend to be red, orange, or yellow. Many of these lights will briefly illuminate when you start your vehicle and turn off after a few seconds. If they don’t illuminate when you start your vehicle, or they stay on, it means there’s a problem with the respective system.

There are also indicator lights on your dashboard, which are usually blue, white, or green. These let you know that the system is engaged or active, and aren’t a cause for alarm.

Common Nissan Dashboard Warning Lights

  • ABS Warning Light: When you see ABS in a circle or on its own, it indicates a malfunction with your anti-lock brake system.
  • Charge Warning Light: This light that looks like a battery indicates a malfunction with your vehicle’s electrical charging system.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking System Warning Light: This light looks like two cars colliding into each other. It should turn on when the system is inactive, but if it stays on when the system is activated, it can indicate a malfunction.
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning Light: When you see an exclamation point inside an open circle, it indicates that your tire pressure is low or there’s a malfunction with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
  • Master Warning Light: This light appears as an exclamation point inside a triangle. It indicates both minor and major issues, such as a loose fuel cap or a malfunction with your engine. If this light appears on the dash, then pull over and check your display for more information on the specific issue.
  • Power Steering Warning Light: The letters PS indicate a malfunction with your power steering system.
  • Seat Belt Warning Light: This light indicates that the passengers need to fasten their seat belts, and will appear as a person wearing a seat belt.
  • Supplemental Air Bag Warning Light: When you see a circle over a seated person, then there’s an issue with your seat belt pretensioners or air bags.
  • Malfunction Indicator Light: When you see the image of an engine, then there’s a problem with the emissions control system.

Common Nissan Dashboard Indicator Lights

  • TOW Mode ON Indicator: When you see TOW in all caps, then TOW mode has been activated.
  • Front Fog Light Indicator: A capital D with a vertical line over three horizontal lines to the left of it means your fog lights are on.
  • High Beam Indicator: A capital D with five short horizontal lines to the left of it means that your high beams are activated.
  • Turn Signal Indicator: When you see a left or right arrow, then your left or right turn signal is activated. When you see both at the same, then the hazard lights are on.
  • Sidelight and Headlight Indicator: Two lights facing each other mean the day lights or headlights are on.
