Nissan Altima Under The Hood

The 182 horsepower, 2.4 liter four cylinder engine offers a zero to 60 mph time of 7.1 seconds, the quickest four cylinder in the class and impressive for a car with fuel economy of 27/38 mpg. The 270 horsepower, 3.5 liter V6 is impressive as well, with a zero to 60 mph time of 6.2 seconds, and an EPA estimated 22/31 mpg. Both engines are paired with Nissan’s continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and come with fixed-ratio-simulating manual shift paddles on uplevel models. The comfortable ride features a multi-link rear suspension, responsive acceleration, quick, accurate steering, and capable handling, making it one of the most rewarding family sedans to drive.

The 2014 Nissan Altima comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. A rearview camera comes standard on all but base and S trim levels. As part of an available technology package, multi-function rearview camera, blind spot warning system, lane departure warning, moving object detection system. Somewhat entertaining but incredibly useful is the functional easy fill tire pressure alert, which flashes hazard lights as you are filling your tires, beeping the horn when you’ve reached the correct pressure.
